Three forgotten subscriptions can quietly cost you hundreds a year. Here's a 15-minute way to find them.
Why they slip through
Free trials that roll into paid plans, yearly renewals you forgot, apps you stopped opening. Each one is small enough to ignore on a statement. Together they aren't.
What three typical forgotten subscriptions ($12.99, $9.99 and $14.99 a month) cost you in a year.
The 15-minute audit
- Open the last 3 months of statements for every card and account.
- Search for the same amount showing up every month, or once a year.
- Check your phone's subscription list (App Store or Google Play settings).
- For each one, ask: did I use this in the last 30 days?
- Cancel the no's today, and set a reminder for any free trial you keep.
Make the savings count
Canceling only helps if the money doesn't disappear into other spending. The moment you cancel, move that same amount to your debt as an extra payment. Then it's working for you instead of vanishing.
